Mark your calendars: the first Data Savvy Librarians Meetup is coming up soon!
Wednesday, August 27
4 pm-6 pm
Phillips Auditorium, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics
60 Garden Street, Cambridge
We’ll be around to help you get Python, Google Refine, etc. set up on your laptops in advance of the meetup, from 3:30-4 pm.
More and more scholarship requires the ability to work with data, and these techniques are revolutionizing what can be done in the workplace. Data Savvy Librarian Meetups are an opportunity to stay current, hone our skills, and work on data-related projects together. Whether you have a specific project in mind or just want some practice working with data, please come!
Will you join us? What would you like to work on? Let us know!
We’ll send out an update about suggested projects and topics a couple days in advance of the meetup. At the meetup, everyone votes with their feet: choose your project and work together to make some headway on it.
Please note that you need not be enrolled in Data Science Training For Librarians (DST4L), though we recommend that you have some familiarity with data-related tools to participate in the meetups.
As always, there will be brain fuel, in the form of sandwiches!
*The venue is walking distance from Harvard Square and Porter Square, and also accessible via several buses. More details via MBTA.com. Parking will be available during the session. Gender neutral bathrooms are available at the venue.
